Breckenridge Ski Resort, one of our favorite local mountains and one of the most visited ski resorts in North America, is planning an expansion for the 2013-2014-ski season. Breckenridge plans to open up Peak 6 that is currently only skiable to those with special permits. The 550-acre expansion is said to increase Breckenridge’s skiable acreage by 23 % and open up more intermediate to expert terrain.

Quick facts about the expansion

–          2 new lifts will access terrain on Peak 6

–          7 below tree line trails (about 68 acres)

–          339 acres of intermediate, advanced-intermediate, and expert skiing

–          143 acres of hiking terrain

We all know Breckenridge can get EXTREMELY crowded at times and make for a slow and boring day on the mountain. Many people believe that the expansion to Peak 6 will help spread out people on the mountain and decrease the crowds, while others believe that it will only bring more people into Breck.
