Tucked away in the Gunnison National Forest lies one of the best resorts in Colorado, the Crested Butte Mountain Resort, offers up some of the best skiing around without all the hustle and bustle like some of the bigger resorts!
Though a five hour drive might seem like a bit much, you’ll be hooked after your first trip up there, if you’re not already. Having been open since the end of November, over 70% of their diverse terrain is open for skiers and snowboarders to enjoy. Almost 60 trails are available with more on the way in the near future. Show up at 9am and spend the day traversing the slopes to your hearts content, or until they have to drag you off at 4pm when it’s time for them to shut down.
When all is said and done, Crested Butte has 15 lifts that service over 120 trails. Skiers and snowboarders of all levels of experience can spend the day exploring their wide variety of trails and terrain parks, which surely won’t leave them bored. Those in the mood for a warm up run, or just starting out, can try their feet at the easier runs such as Houston or Kubler. And those experienced veterans can venture to some of the resorts extreme terrain found at the top of the Silver Queen Express lift.
Those looking to have a bit more fun that can’t always be found out on the runs, Crested Butte’s park staff put together three terrain parks for you to ride in. The Keystone and Painter Boy parks are great for those learning the basics, and the Cascade Park is for those with more experience. Remember to wear your helmet, and always look before you leap!
With amazing runs, some breath taking views, and a smaller crowd, Crested Butte Mountain Resort has lots to offer. Pack up your gear and toss your skis or board on the roof rack and get up to experience it for yourself!
