Naps: Not Just for the Children in Your Life

June 17, 2020

A common misconception of the controversial nap is that it only has benefits for children and adults don’t need to partake in this activity. There are SO many reasons why naps are great for adults, and why you should include it into your daily routine, whether that’s in your bed, at your office, or on some deep-seated patio furniture, such as those offered by Kettler and OW Lee.

One of the things that adults always joke about is that “they are getting old and that’s why they are so forgetful.” Combat forgetfulness with a nap; according to WebMD, sleep helps you remember things, and taking a nap in the middle of the day has the same benefit on memory storage as a full night’s sleep.

A nap also helps alertness, which everyone struggles with, especially after a heavy lunch. All you need is 20 minutes to combat that post-lunch food-coma. 20 minutes of nap time can also help boost your mood. Relaxing by lying down and resting is an automatic mood booster according to some experts.

However, experts also caution to not sleep for too long. If you’ve got the time, a 90 minute nap is going to leave you feeling the most rested and bring the most benefits. Why? To get through one full sleep cycle, which includes light and deep sleep, takes 90 minutes.

But if you’re crunched for time, a power nap lasting from 10-20 minutes is ideal. At 30 minutes, your body enters deep sleep, so when you wake up, you tend to feel more groggy and tired than when you started your nap.

So make it a point this week to fit a nap into your schedule, and head to Outpost for some of the comfiest deep-seated patio furniture, perfect for a mid-afternoon or early evening nap
