As the warm weather moves in and the cold, snowy days start to fade away, the realization that ski season is coming to an end sinks in.
It has been an epic season to say the least, with unreal amounts of snow and tons of perfect riding days, we hate to see it come to an end. As April begins, the days are numbered for many resorts, with many of them closing their doors and shutting their lifts down until next season.
There’s a bright side to all of this though and there’s still plenty of time to get out and ride! While some of our favorites close for the season, there are still many great places to go and warmer weather doesn’t mean you can’t have a treaty day on the mountain. Warmer weather means that you can shed a few of those layers that are necessary in the frigid winter months. Heck, you could even hit the slopes in just a t-shirt some days! Fewer days spent freezing on the lift, that’s a plus for sure. Driving conditions improve, and less time in the car and on I-70 is always a great thing.
One of our favorite pastimes is spring tailgating. Instead of seeking refuge in the resort or the warmest spot we can find, we gather at the car and share stories from our runs in the back bowls or that not so pleasant story about the tree that came out of nowhere. Pack up a lunch, tons of snacks, and your favorite beverages, throw them in the car and tailgate before, during, and after your day on the mountain. We’ve made many great friendships during our tailgate parties over the years, so invite over some of your parking lot neighbors and people you’ve met on the lifts!
Below is a list of resort closing dates of some great late season ski destinations across Colorado, now get out there!
